ICU: DAY 10

Ryan remains on contact isolation for the Pseudomonas bacteria. From a respiratory perspective, he had a very good day. His lungs are sounding clearer each day and he is maintaining 100% oxygen saturation nearly all the time.

Ryan Remains on Contact Isolation

Otherwise, he had a rough day. Especially in the late morning into the afternoon hours. He stormed. Pulse was approaching his record high of 190. Respiration was over 40 breaths per minute. High fever, elevated blood pressure, blah, blah, blah. Everyone knows the extreme battle he overcomes each and every time he storms by now.

Back to the positive. His feed rate was increased from 30 ml to 40 ml (or 2-2/3  tablespoons hourly). This now gets him to roughly two-thirds of his regular daily intake. The opthamologist (eye doctor) that Ryan saw two weeks ago came in to the hospital for a follow-up. He said Ryan’s eyes looked much improved. We debated ongoing treatment and came up with a plan that has the highest likelihood of success.

We are still on schedule for ICU discharge to home this weekend. This assumes Ryan continues in his recovery and no new issues surface.
