Real Food Tried Again

Before Ryan’s ICU stay over Christmas, we started introducing him to “real” food.  We were only two days into it when he was taken to the emergency room.

Sue preparing kale and carrots

Sue resumed processing vegetables last weekend, starting with apples. Over the course of the week, we have also successfully  tried a puree of kale and carrot. We use pomegranate juice as the liquid base. We are trying different source of nutrition in small, measured doses. At some point in the future we anticipate replace most/all of the canned tube feeds. So far, Ryan is tolerating the change well.  ***Fingers crossed *** Like everything he gets, we are administering these through his g-tube.

  • A night with a bad nurse.
  • How I simultaneously overdosed and underdosed myself.

That’s good news. I hope it all goes well.

  2. Susanne says:

    Dear Divineys,
I hope Kari is staying warm and getting “reidentified”! She will always be your and Sue’s daughter, Ryan’s sister, and our “adopted” child. When it comes to raising our children, “It takes a village!” And that’s what this life is all about….looking out for each other all the time that we can and in every way that we can and in all the places we can for as long as we can. (I think this was part of a quote by Asbury.) Anyway, know that your family is supported and loved. I hope Ryan continues to tolerate the food that Sue prepares. After all this time, I’m sure Ryan is holding out for the turkey and dressing! May you have a wonderful day and know that we are praying for you.

Praying that Ryan tolerates his new food well, and that it will help to strengthen him as he works on healing. Fresh food like this should be very good for Ryan. Keep up the fantastic work, Ken & Sue! And Kari, I hope everything is back to normal and that you have a wonderful weekend!!
