Video: Executing a Transfer

Well. I made my first “real” video this morning. Nothing flashy. However, I did manage to put a title at the beginning and credits at the end. I’m sure I’ll get better a this, but time constraints today didn’t allow me to delve into it.I did watch it. It gets a little choppy and boring at times, but I kept it under ten minutes. Hopefully, you can sit through it. Maybe even get a laugh or two…

A word of caution. Even though you see more on the beach, Ryan’s bum does show a tad. It’s not full frontal (or, in this case, posterior) nudity. Just a side glimpse. I’m sure he’d be fine with it. He’s been told he has a nice tush. Must get it from his dad…

Speaking of me, I was appalled to see I’m growing what appears to be a mullet! I need a hairstylist! Also, I know what you’ll be thinking: “Those scrubs do so much for your body. You wear them well”. Just remember… I not a nurse on TV, I play one in real life. I dress the part. I now have four pairs of scrubs. Three are armless.

Well, here you go. Without being too harsh, let me know if this is something you would like to see of more. I never said I was meant for the big screen.

Ken, beautiful. God Bless You and you family. You are a wonderful father. Hugs and Kisses to Ryan from Mama Misco and Timmy.

  2. I found the vid to be very interesting. (Glad to see Ryan moving around so much on his own!) The clip’s quality was excellent!…

… And the “Ken as Sexy Nurse” credit at the end was a perfect crowning touch ๐Ÿ˜›

  3. Sam Durham says:

Haven’t watched the video yet. Too busy laughing over your blog. You really must write a biook, “Laughing through Tragedy, the Coping Mechanism for a Broken Heart”. Ryan would be devastated had the orange jumpsuit crew taken your sense of humor. I have a feeling it is a family treasure.

  4. kristine says:

ken, that was great and lots of info.. now we see what you do with ryan during the day. your doing a great job with your son. still praying for all you guys in indiana……

  5. Michelle says:

Just love the way you talk to him, touch him, that’s gonna make the difference. โค RKD

  8. Vicky Scott says:

    Ken,
Great! Very informative. No apologies needed. You have NO IDEA how many families, in our same type of situation, this will impact or help, but believe me, it will.
    Vicky

  9. Gwen says:

This was wonderful! Ryan is so blessed to have been born into such a wonderful, loving family. Please keep the videos coming. (I hear the mullet is making a comeback!)

  10. Tim Williamson says:

It’s a very beautiful video! full of love….

  11. Claira says:

I read your blog everyday and have yet to comment. But having seen your video, I had to write and say I am just in awe of you, Ken. Ryan is so lucky to have you as his father. I am not a religious person, not even necessarily spiritual, but after knowing about your story, I feel like there is a reason why you are Ryan’s father. I still can’t make any sense of the tragedy in general, but I do feel almost certain that Ryan was “assigned” to you and you to Ryan for a reason. You are really amazing.

    • Carla Liberty says:

      Claira,
That’s the Holy Spirit working…..He knows our needs way before we do! I’ve long believed too, that nothing happens by coincidence. We are all part of a tapestry that is being weaved by God. Each thread is a life experience, and it is entertwined to make a complete picture (makes up our life story). You are so right when you said that you believe Ken and Ryan were assigned to each other. God knows our needs. God Bless you for writing ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Jenn says:

    2nd time this week…Amazing Man!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Jo Hobbs says:

Clicking, clicking — won’t start — now what the he.. is the problem here???

  14. Beth Quesnell says:

Ken you did Awesome, can’t wait for the next one! It was great seeing Ryan move around and you smile. The blue balls, well gotta hand it to you, the last point to them was right on target! and damn they are really really blue! Just sayin….. ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Gail Doyle says:

Dear Ken, It was awesome. Glad to see Ryan too.I would like to see more videos of what caring for our boy Ryan involves It’s simply incredible what you all do. God Bless. Gail

  16. Lisa from WV says:

It’s beautiful what a loving parent will do for their child. Still praying for your family and Ryan always.

  17. Paula says:

Ken, this is awesome!! More, more, more!!!! And who was that handsome young man I saw blinking his eyes and looking around behind you? Plain as day I saw him waking up as you were concluding the video. Hey Ken? Stand up and take a bow. For everything you do for your son and for your family, day in and day out. You are an amazing human being. Even if you did try to hypnotize me with those big blue balls. Love, cheers, hugs, applause and admiration for you and your beautiful family. And look at that Ryan, a chip off the ‘ol block, working just as hard as his Daddy to show what courage and fortitude look like. Truly a miracle to behold.

  18. Kathy says:

I read your blog every morning. That was awesome. Keep those videos coming.

  19. Rita says:

What you do in caring for Ryan is simply amazing, Ken. This video is awesome in every way. You and Ryan both look great, and it’s wonderful to see you smile ๐Ÿ™‚ Last of all, I love your closing credits! I think I hear your audience demanding an encore performance… Keep ’em coming!

  20. Marilyn says:

I am speechless! There truly is an element of the “divine” in the Diviney household.

  21. Marlene (Nana) Diviney says:

Wow!!! Very impressed with the video. As for your hair, you do need a haircut. But please don’t cut it yourself like you did one other time. A hair stylist you “aint”. When you were a little guy you cut your hair and that was cute then. Also, do you remember when I permed you, Ken C. and Ash’s hair? A hair stylist I “aint”.

This is for Sue—Kenny said he needed a haircut. Grab all the scissors in the house and hide them from him, just in case he gets any ideas.

  22. Michele says:

Never commented before, but had to say, GREAT JOB Ken! So wonderful seeing how life with a traumatic brain injured patient/son really is!

  23. Megan says:

Awesome video very informative. Has Ryan still been closing his eyes at night time? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  24. Brings back memories, Ken. So glad we’re past those lifts and slings. I did see motion on Ryan’s part and that to is a good thing. Our boy is always complaining about the Peg-tube and how sore it is. If you’re taking request for the next video, can you show us how Ryan get meds and feeding. Also how you keep the site clean. Thanks.

Good job on the video and it didn’t look jerky to me. Still praying in Michigan.

    • Karen S says:

      Hi Steve,
My daughter has a g-tube and we put Desitin Ointment around it, then put a 3″ x 3″ or 4″ x 4″ gauze pad on top of that and then push the flap of the g-tube close to the gauze pad. We have been doing that for about 7 years and her site is totally clean, no redness, swelling, oozing….nothing. Also if there is ever a trach site that is red etc. that anyone reading this wants to try, we used lanolin around her trach site and it was just as clean and normal looking as the rest of her skin. Hope this helps!

  25. Paula says:

Still praying for Andrew, too. Prayers & Love from Ashburn, VA!!

  26. Wow! It’s amazing to actually “see” what an ordeal it is to complete one daily task. Just from this one video clip, it is clear to see how much of your time is completely consumed each day just to transfer Ryan from activity to activity. You are an amazing Dad and such an inspiration to us all! I think I will NEVER complain about anything in my life again! And I don’t think my husband will ever complain about his blue balls again because yours are MUCH BIGGER! Also, my husband does not keep his on display in the family room ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sue is okay with that? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Blessings to you all!
    Maureen Bradham

  27. Jill in Morgantown says:

It’s Gomez meets “the Todd” from Scrubs!! :):) LOL
Ken, you are an AMAZING person and father!!!!! How you can manage to keep your sense of humor throughout everything is amazing itself. My heart just breaks watching Ryan in that condition. Too bad there’s not some way you could record him everyday and force Vantrease and May to watch it from their prison cells!!!!!! God bless Ryan and all of you!!!! Still here and praying in Morgantown

Wow! That was very cool. This is going to be so helpful for other folks and on a completely selfish level, I love seeing Ryan and having a glimpse into your day. I loved how much he was moving around, that’s all good, right? I would love to see more.

  30. Jo Hobbs says:

I am happy to say, I just viewed the video — finally with Ken’s expertise! If you had any problem, just go to You Tube and type in “Executing a Transfer.” Thank you, Ken!

  31. Nancy Tawney says:

Wow! the video is awesome, that was amazing to watch. Ken you are doing such a wonderful job! I will continue to pray for Ryan and all of you. Go team Diviney!

  32. Karen S says:

Nice video, Ken. I have that wheelchair and maybe that lift (is it a hoyer presence?). Can you please tell me what make and model of Hyperbaric oxygen chamber that is? Thank you!

  33. colleen from Newark, De says:

It looks effortless on your part, but I am sure it isn’t. Don’t know Ryan or your family, but have followed your site ever since the story ran in our local paper. Stay strong and keep that humor! The blue balls and sexy nurse title at the end crack me up!

  34. Amanda Locascio says:

You did a great job on the video Mr. Diviney!! Ryan looks wonderful!!

  35. Bonnie Perkins says:

    Ken

    Hi Ken,

We met at dinner with Peter Walsh & Ken at bone fish. Great video! You are very inspirational. Can I get you some new scrubs for the video portions of your day? What size? ๐Ÿ™‚
