A Typical (Early) Saturday Morning

Up & At ‘Em

I looked at the clock. It wasn’t 7:00 AM yet. Still, Ryan was already up for at least an hour (remember, I have trouble sleeping). And, hey, if I’m up then why should everyone be up? (Note: I learned this from my dad). Sue gets a permanent pass though, and remain snuggled in the bed next to Ryan’s. Duke is flopped over next to her, snoring. The only way to describe his position is…well.. he kinda looks like a cheap prostitute.

We beat the sun up this morning.

Completely going against protocol, I shaved Ryan. This is Sue’s thing she enjoys doing, so hell is going to be paid later! She might not admit it, but I give him a much closer shave. No stragglers by his lips or adam’s apple. Just as smooth and kissable as all get out. Sue also has a great deal of difficulties shaving the cleft just under his lower lip. For all you “hip” people out there, you’ll know what I mean when I say she leaves Ryan with a “soul patch”. Sue is so ghetto. Ryan would be appalled.

I brushed his teeth. Ointment went into his eyes. The MNS electrodes went on his wrists. I inhalated/exhalated him. I cleaned his ears with a q-tip. I swabbed and moisturized his nostrils. He even received the “belly button” treatment. The dude is looking fly (as I use to say in the 1990’s). Word! Home Boy.

…and, it wasn’t even seven o’clock! I wonder if that pot of coffee had anything to do with it? Don’t be critical (that’s my wife’s job), we all have our vices.

Sue’s Father

Although Sue’s dad remains in ICU, he seems to be improving. We are relieved to hear this. Poor Sue, under so much stress and having to be torn in both directions. It’s really so unfair for this to be happening to such a nice woman.

For early in the morning, you’re in great spirits today. It’s good to see. Keep having a great day today.

You are so funny Ken! When you write your book its going to be on the NY Times Best Seller list for years! All of us can vividly see Duke laying next to Sue, so funny!

Ryan is such a handsome young man! He’s such a mix of you and Sue, but I think he favors Sue ; ) I wish you had gotten a picture of Duke snuggled on the bed — our family chuckles at those pictures for days, sometimes weeks lol. I heard a rumor that Duke may get a bath soon — lots of bubbles and a clean fresh scent — we could sell autographed pictures of his highness : ) I’m praying for Sue’s Dad to get lots of good rest. Recovery from this is a gradual process, requiring much rest, and eventually small amounts of activity to allow the heart to strengthen. My sister and I have been through this with our Mom; it was so hard to see such a vibrant person become so weak. Slowly she got better, and she learned to manage the condition and live her life. I am hoping the same for Sue’s Dad. Wishing you guys a good day even in the rain…the grass has turned emerald green.

Ah, the old Duke boy. Many a morning I would wake up to Duke in “that” position next to me. He would make me laugh when I was hardly awake. My poor husband would practically be kicked off the bed. Duke loves his women! I imagine Ryan is looking like that handsome devil that he is. As always thinking of you and sending strong thoughts.

Between the comment on my duke or the soul patch on “my boy” Ryan I caannot stop laughing. I guess it is better to leave a solupatch then cut him, yes? Early morning is my favorite time of day. Peaceful, a clean scent in the air, coffee down the hatch:). Tell Sue when she wakes that we are caring and loving her as much as ever. We will keep her dad in serious prayer for his health. Ken keep taking care of Ryan the way we have all trusted that you do everyday. Throw us the humor at us whenever you can, that would be daily please. (I said please:))
